Week 1 Home MTC

16 June 2021

Hey Everyone!

I want to be able to make these emails as neat as I possibly can. So with that in mind, I will be copying one of my best friends, Sister Ferreira! She is also serving a mission! She is going to Tokyo, Japan! Anyways, in her weekly emails, she highlights her main points, and basically things that she wants the reader to see (I will be highlighting those things in orange). Also, since a lot of you that gave me your emails aren’t members of my faith, I will be highlighting things like terms and phrases that we use in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, to sort of explain what I am trying to say (that will be in green). (I’m basically copying her exactly, but using different colors to highlight….so am I really copying?…yes)

I hope that it all makes sense! 🙂

What a great week it’s been! On Tuesday of last week (June 8th), I was set apart as a Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Setting apart is when a person gets a blessing from their church leader, “setting them apart” from “worldly desires”, allowing them to officially start their mission! We as missionaries devote our time to studying the scriptures, praying diligently, serving others, and inviting other to come unto Christ! The next day (June 9th) I started my first day of the MTC. The MTC is basically a place devoted to training missionaries like myself.

We get to learn how to better teach others, and also get to learn a new language, if applicable, which in my case it is. I will be learning Spanish for the next 6 weeks!

I have been called to serve in Oaxaca, Mexico! Usually you would be going to an actual “in person” MTC, but because of covid, we study from home via Zoom. ALLLL of our classes and activities are through zoom.

Well the first day in the MTC our AC BROKE….and I live in Texas, so it HOT. But of course it only broke upstairs, which is where my room is. Sooooo, I had to move all my stuff downstairs and take over my little Brother’s room. But other than that, it was great. I got to meet the people in my district and my teachers. (There’s 10 missionaries and 2 teachers.) Throughout the week we’ve had time to get to know one another fairly well. Can’t wait to get to know them all more! They’re all so great and I love each and everyone of them so much already!

My companion is Elder Fowers. What a cool and funny dude! Every morning we get to do an hour of study together, where we choose a topic to study (example, repentance, baptism, learning more about Christ). A companion, when referring to a mission, is basically your best bud haha. You are supposed to stay together at all times, study together, cook together and most importantly look out for one another.

So once a week, I have a day called Preparation Day or “P Day”. This day is dedicated to shopping for groceries, doing laundry, writing emails to family and friends, and many other things! It’s basically a day to prepare mentally and physically for the week to come. My assigned P day is Wednesday. So for the next 5 weeks, on Wednesdays, I will be sending out an email covering some things I’d like to share with you all 🙂! I wish I could take the time to share EVERYTHING, but it takes too long to type these things out haha, and I wouldn’t want to read a huge email myself either.

  • Here’s my usual daily routine:
  • 630: Wake up and exercise for 30 mins
  • 730: Companion Study/daily planning
  • 830: Eat breakfast900: First Class
  • 1200: Class finished and I have lunch
  • 1245: Second Class (workshop)
  • 430: Third Class
  • 730: Eat
  • 1030: Bed
  • And during the day, I have to find time to have:
  • 1 hour of personal study
  • 1 hour of language study
  • I guess you could say I’m very busy during the day!
Everyone’s been doing this animated picture thing on Facebook, so here’s mine (love my CARBAJAL ears haha) (also before I cut quite a bit of hair off)
