Week 24

29 Nov 2021

Hey everyone!
So, I’m officially in a new area with a new comp. On Tuesday, I moved from Miahuatlàn to Salina Cruz. About 6 hours away. My new comp is Elder Rosier from Idaho.
This new area is a huge change. It’s blazing hot here, while in Miahuatlàn it was cold. The members here are awesome and so engaged in missionary work. We eat with members everyday here too and we share a ward with another set of Elders so we see them and eat with them every single day! The kids are so awesome! One day during the week while we were eating with a family from our church, I talked about anime for about an hour and a half with Esther. It was awesome.
One thing I’ve learned while being in Mexico, is that a lot of them like anime, marvel, and a show called “the 100”. And thankfully I like all of them…..a lot 😅.
The missionary work here is amazing! People are so ready to hear the gospel here, and are progressing super fast.
This week we helped a member in our ward get his water from a well. He’s never had running water, and lives in a very tiny house. It was very humbling. We made about 7 trips to and back from the well! As my comp and I were making our trip back to the well with the water jugs. I bought all of us a 1 liter water bottle. When I gave it to the member, he said, “I would’ve preferred coke”. Hey can’t win em’ all I guess.
So about a month ago, our mission started something super cool. Every single day we’ve been fasting. Okay okay okay I know that sounds tough, but let me explain a little more. So every single day, one companionship of missionaries will be fasting. And there’s around 70+ companionships. So as a mission, we are fasting every single day. Of course this fast has a purpose. We’re fasting to find new people to teach, and especially complete families that are ready to hear and accept the gospel. It’s super powerful. And we’ve found many families that are ready to hear our message just since I’ve been here.
Also, this Sunday was awesome. Church was awesome and I got to meet all of the members here! 2 people specifically. _________ a 14 yr old in our ward made me a bracelet which was the sweetest thing! And___camila?_ who is the craziest 12 year old I’ve ever met! After church we talked for about an hour and a half. She’s part of an inactive family but last Sunday she attended church. When I told her I was from the US she was like, “apoco si? Usted es un gringo?”. She’s very upfront. Gave her some starbursts that my parents sent in a package and she loved them. Unfortunately, she’s in the other Elders area, so we can go to visit her and her family too much. But after they left, Elder Stoddard (another Elder in the ward, not my comp) told me that she asked if the “moreno” was going to come visit her in their house with them, or if it was just going to be the other Elders. He told her no, and she said “well, he should”. She says what she wants lol.
Also, me and one of the other Elders were playing bloody knuckles in front of them, and they were like, “Why are you guys hitting each other? Isn’t this supposed to be a place of love and peace?”. Then her cousin said, “Yeah guys, like we’re in a church”. These two are the most sarcastic little girls I have ever met. I love them
A start to a great transfer here in Salina Cruz! Sorry for the long email everyone, take care everyone!
